In 2006, Captain James Orr with the Alexander City Police Department discovered the agency was faced with funding challenges of critical programs and equipment. Because of this, on April 28, 2006, the Alexander City S.A.F.E. Prevention Program, Inc. was incorporated. On March 22, 2007, the corporation was granted its charitable organization status by becoming a Non-Profit 501(c)(3) Corporation. The program collaborates with local law enforcement (Alexander City Police Department) to ensure the success of its mission to aid in the sustainability of its enhancement of community life programs and crime prevention efforts. The D.A.R.E program, which promotes its drug awareness resistance education model, continues to thrive today in the Alexander City School System funded by S.A.F.E. from a direct result of its generous donors. The corporation also provides other programs to the public as well as aid in the funding of training to department members such as the it’s School Resource Officers Unit. Members and the corporation board meet throughout the year to learn of ongoing efforts and to discuss strategies to ensure that it’s core mission is achieved.
